Step by step
Pre-Installation Preparation Guide
To ensure that the liquid screed performs at its best, we highly recommend the following steps be carried out prior to installing underfloor heating and the pouring of the liquid screed:
- Site Readiness and Subfloor Clearance:
• Weather Tight: All pouring areas must be weather tight and sealed where required to protect materials and the installation process.
• Clear & Flat: Make sure the subfloor is completely clear of debris and laid flat. Allow appropriate depth for the insulation, the liquid screed layer, and the final floor coverings.
•
Final Debris Check:
Before the screed truck arrives, ensure the area is again clear and completely free from debris.
2. Insulation & Edging Strips
• Insulation: Lay insulation boards in a staggered form, ensuring all boards are tightly secured with no movement.
•
Edging Strips:
Incorporate edging strips around the perimeter of the room where required. These strips account for the thermal expansion of the screed.
3. Tanking Membrane:
• Laying the Membrane: Lay a tanking membrane (500 gauge if possible) on top of the overlapped insulation. If no insulation is present, lay the membrane directly on top of the concrete slab.
• Sealing: 100mm overlaps are recommended. Tape all joints and corners extensively to ensure they are water tight and no leakages can occur. (You can never use too much tape!)
• Precision:
The neater and closer you get the membrane to walls and round corners, the closer our screed will finish to the walls. Try to avoid leaving air pockets behind or under the membrane.

4. Underfloor Heating Pipe Installation
• Securing: Securely fix underfloor heating pipes every 300mm to prevent movement during the pour.
• Pressure Check: The pipes must be pressure checked to ensure no leakage occurs before the liquid screed is poured.
•

5. Post-Installation Screed Aftercare
• Curing: The liquid screed will dry quickly, but the curing process takes time. Protect the surface from heavy loads and extreme temperature changes immediately following the pour.
• Ventilation: Good ventilation is vital once the initial setting time is passed to allow moisture to escape.
• Commissioning:
We provide essential guidance on commissioning the UFH system (the 'ramp-up' schedule) to prevent thermal shock and ensure the structural integrity of the screed is maintained.

Frequently Asked questions
Everything You Need To Know
Here are the answers to the questions
we get asked most often - if
yours isn't listed, we're happy to help.
Is underfloor heating expensive to run?
No - it’s highly efficient, running at lower temperatures than radiators and distributing heat evenly, typically saving 15–30% on energy bills, especially when paired with a heat pump.
How long does liquid screed take to dry?
With Gypsol anhydrite screed you can walk on it after 48 hours and install most floor coverings in just 7–14 days (depending on depth and conditions) – far quicker than traditional screed.
Is underfloor heating safe for kids?
Yes – the floor surface stays at a gentle 25–29 °C, no hot radiators or sharp edges, and it’s completely sealed with no dust circulation.
Will liquid screed crack or shrink?
Premium anhydrite screed like Gypsol has minimal shrinkage and virtually zero risk of cracking or curling when installed correctly, which is why we guarantee it.
Do you handle full installations?
Absolutely – our turnkey service covers everything: site survey, insulation, underfloor heating, liquid screed and project coordination, all with one dedicated point of contact.
